BetThe money risked on the outcome of an event. Return to the slot machine terms main page. In slots, a bet is the money you risk on each spin. The event in question on a slot machine is the spinning of the reels. When the reels come to rest in certain patterns, a player wins the bet and receives a payback on the original wager. When a slot machine player makes a bet, the player hits the spin button to initiate the spinning of the reels. In today's slots games, the eventual reel positions are determined by a random number generator and not the mechanical process of reel spinning. The reels are there simply for effect, because this is the traditional activity of a slot machine. Bets on slot machines today come in many different increments. Slot machines might have many different paylines, between one and one-hundred. Each new payline added to a bet increases the size of that bet. For instance, if you are betting 50 cents per payline and you choose to bet on 9 different paylines, then the bet isn't the original $0.50, but $4.50. Many slot machines allow players to bet different coin denominations, too. A slot machine might allow 5 cent, 25 cent, 50 cent, 1 dollar and 5 dollar coin denominations. If you choose a $0.05, 1-payline bet, you'll only bet 5 cents per spin. But if you choose $5 and 9 paylines per spin on the same machine, you'll be betting $45 on every wager. In this way, slot machines can service various types of gamblers, from casual players to high rollers. Often, a casino will have a few higher denomination slot machines, where the bets might have a minimum limit of $10, $25, $100 or even $1000. These machines will usually be set off from the other slots on slots row, so other gamblers can see who the high rollers are. Bet can actually be a noun or a verb. "To bet" is the act of making a bet on the outcome of an event. |
