Caille Gum VendorType of slot machine which payed out in gum instead of money, because of local anti-gambling laws. Return to the slot machine terms main page. The Caille Gum Vendor was used extensively at the turn of the 20th century, because most U.S. states made it illegal to win prize money off of gambling machines. The Caille gum vendor was a return to the time of the poker machine, when games paid out in gum, cigars or liquor. At the time, once could play the Caille gum vendor for a nickel per spin. This doesn't sound like a lot, but it actually was a sizable donation at the time to win gum. For this reason, Caille gum vendors were never as popular as the Charles Fey slot machines which paid out cash. There were many Caille slot machines in the first half of the 20th century, and today they are considered antiques. Examples of Caille machines are the Ben Hur, Big Six, New Century, Victory, Quintette, Operator Bell Deluxe, the Hy-Lo and the Good Luck. The Caille Gun Vendor was just one of Caille's machines. To make the game more entertaining, some Caille gun vendor machines came with a music feature. This makes the Caille Gum Vendor one of the first slot machines to offer an entertaining audio component. | Slot Machines Main Page |
