Drop Through

Type of slots game where a ball "drops through" a hole to give results. Similar to the Japanese Pachinko games.

Pachinko is a combination of video slot machine and modern pinball machine. Drop through games like pachinko are the most popular form of gambling in Japan, and Pachinko parlors are found throughout the country. These gambling venues are typically smoke-filled and cramped, but have bright lights and loud noises to attract customers.

In a drop through game, a player launches a ball, which falls through the screen much like it would in a pinball game. There are no bumpers in a drop through slots game. Players can win extra balls (spins) or the jackpot prize on a drop through game.

Japan also has Pashislo games, which are more akin to traditional slot machines. "Pachislo" is a Japanese portmanteau of the words "pachinko" and "slots", and you'll occasionally see the word spelled pachi-slo to indicate its derivation.

In Pachislo, the steel ball launched into the game has little to do with winning and losing, while the reel placements are the real mechanism for determining winners.
