Fill

The part of the slot machine session when the coins drop into the hopper. The fill is a shortened version of the hopper fill, which also describes this event.

For many players, the fill is the most exciting part of the slots session. The fill is when the player gets paid off for that big jackpot he or she just won, or when the player receives money for a successful slots session of smaller wins.

If a large number of coins have been won, the hopper fill involves the patter of hundreds of coins dropping on one another at one time. This is poetically called the sound of rain, because the coins simulate the steady patter of a rain falling on the ground.

These days, there are fewer slot machines which have a hopper fill. Instead, when the player hits the cash out button, a ticket is printed out that is taken to the casino's cashiers.
