The hit and run winner is a term borrowed from poker. Poker players hate the gambler that shows up, puts big money into a few pots, wins one and then asks to be dealt out. The player has drained the game of a bunch of money and doesn't give the other players a chance to win their money back. It's not considered very sporting.

In slots, there's a slightly different game dynamic. A slot machine is less likely to get offended than someone's poker buddies. At the same time, the hit and run winner attracts a certain amount of attention.

The hit-and-run winner in slots plays quick sessions. If he wins, he walks away from the slot machine. If he loses, he gets out of the losing session sooner rather than later.

This might be due to the player using money management techniques. Money management methods in slots usually dictate loss limits and win goals. If a player loses a certain amount of money in one session (or has a certain consecutive number of naked pulls), the player walk away without losing his bankroll. And if a player wins a certain amount of money (often a percentage of his bankroll), then the player walks away, locking in his profits.

The hit-and-run winner will move from one slot machine to another throughout the day.

The hit and run winner has a lot in common with the "short win", though the two are not necessarily synonymous. The short win is what happens when someone wins a jackpot without spending much money on a machine. That is, the player walks up to the machine and hits the jackpot in relatively short order.

The short win differs in that the player might continue playing, the a hit and run winner is certain to walk away after hitting the jackpot. Also, a hit and run winner does not necessarily always win a jackpot.

In either case, the short win or the hit-and-run winner might annoy the zombie who is camping out at the next slot machine over, since they have been grinding on their machine all day.
