International Game Technology, sometimes called International Gaming Technology, has offices in the United States (Reno, Las Vegas), the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, South Africa and Australia. IGt also has operations in South America. In the United States, IgT has a major presence in Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida and Pennsylvania.

The company was founded in 1975 under the name A-1 Supply, and later changed its name to SIRCOMA and then International Game Technology. Along the way, IGT has bought competitors like WagerWorks, Acres Gaming, Cyberview Technology and Venture Catalyst Incorporated. IGT partners with AC Coin in certain parts of the United States, where IGT cannot market slot machines without the aid of a distributor. Today, IGT has over 4,500 worldwide employees.

International Game Technology was the first slot machine company to license television, movie and pop culture themes for slot machines. These slots are among the most popular and profitable slot machines in the world. Among the most famous IGT slot machines are the Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Beverly Hillbillies slot machine, Star Wars slot machine, Alien Vs Predator slot machine, the Addams Family slots, the Munsters slots.

One of the reason for IGT's success was its early embracing of progressive jackpots, which were only made possible in the late 1970's and 1980's with the invention of random number generators.
