Max Bet

A wager of the maximum number of coins on a slot machine, usually five coins.

On many slot machines, players need to make the maximum bet in order to qualify for the top prize on the machine. On bonus multiplier slots, the 5-coin top prize jackpot is proportionally larger than the jackpots on the 1-coin, 2-coin, 3-coin and 4-coin bets. So if a 1-coin bet pays out at 200 coins, the 2-coin pays 400, the 3-coin bet pays 600 and a 4-coin bet pays 800, then on a bonus multiplier slots game, the jackpot on the 5-coin bet will be something more than 1000 coins -- often 1200 coins.

In this case, it pays to make the max bet on a bonus multiplier slots game. If you play one of these machines, you need to always bet the max bet. If you don't feel comfortable playing at this coin amount, then you should drop down to a lower denomination and bet the 5-coin max bet.

On video slots, you don't need to play the maximum bet. You'll need to activate the maximum number of paylines to qualify for the jackpot or top prize, but it makes no sense to place 5-coin bets on a video slots game. In fact, you should always place 1-coin bets on a video slot machine.

You can make the max bet with one touch on a slot machine. The "Bet Max" button on a slot machine allows a player to bet the maximum number of coins with one touch. The Bet Max button is found to the right of the "Spin" button on a slot machine console.
